The sound of my youth

Hello, my friends,

I will publish two poems from 25 years ago, but before that, let's talk about the current situation in my country.

The situation in Iran is still critical. It seems that it has even worsened since I wrote these poems.

A significant number of Iranian schools have been poisoned suspiciously. The event began on November 30, 2022, in a girls' high school in Qom. Since then, hundreds of students in 60 schools in Qom, mostly in girls' middle and high schools, have been poisoned. These events were not limited to Qom and have extended to other cities throughout Iran. Most of the affected students were girls, although in a few cases, poisonings in boys' schools have also been reported.

Research on the type of poisoning has been inconclusive, and the cause of this event is unclear. However, speculations have been made regarding the role of extremist Shia groups, conservative religious sects, Taliban supporters, and millenarianists (those who believe in the imminent appearance of the Mahdi), who all oppose educating girls in various ways.

1- the sound of Youth

They knock at the door with a rifle butt

with fist

with kick

How far has the jingle of her anklets gone? how far have you gone

The sound of my youth?…

She hides her song under a jasmine tree,

her dance under an orange flower tree.

2-Walnut Tree

Walnut tree!

My Mother!

Will you hide me in your arms?

In your estranged green leaves?

Because

I have collyrium around my eyes,

henna on my hands

and anklets around my feet

Oh!

I didn’t tell this

I have let loose a strand of my hair

over the forehead

Walnut tree!

My Mother!
